Eighteen (18) probationary lecturers from 14 universities whose services had been terminated due to delays/failure to complete their prescribed postgraduate qualification during their 8-year probationary period owing to the Covid-19 pandemic are to be reinstated following a review.

The decision to reinstate the probationary lecturers comes after Cabinet approval was given to implement the recommendations of a committee appointed to review the matter.

The committee had recommended that relief be granted to 18 probationary lecturers who it determined had been able to prove that their postgraduate research during the probationary period from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2027, had been negatively impacted by the pandemic.

The committee has proposed that if the lecturers have applied for reinstatement and if they have obtained the prescribed postgraduate qualification within a maximum period of two years from the date of termination of their service, they be granted reinstatement.
