OKI Strengthens Leadership as Channa Gunawardana Joins as Executive Director
View(s):Marking 28 years of exceptional educational excellence and growth, OKI International School has further strengthened its leadership team with the appointment of Channa Gunawardana as Executive Director on a part-time basis, signalling the institution’s continued commitment to excellence and future-focused education
Over the years, OKI International School has built a strong reputation as one of Sri Lanka’s growing international school networks, recognised for its balanced focus on academic performance, student development, and co-curricular excellence. With a presence across multiple campuses and a steadily expanding student base, the institution has positioned itself as a trusted choice for parents seeking quality international education. A testament to this continued excellence is reflected in its recent achievements, including receiving the prestigious Integrated Learning Award at the Cambridge School Recognition Awards – South Asia 2025. The school has also demonstrated outstanding sporting excellence, proudly securing 4th place at the ISAC Athletic Championship 2026 for the second consecutive year. Further highlighting its all-round performance, OKI achieved the Runners-Up position at the 14th Inter-International Schools Karate Championship (ISKC) 2025.
Welcoming the appointment, Denum Abeysekera, Directress of OKI, stated, “We are delighted to have Mr. Gunawardana join us at this important stage of our journey. OKI has always focused on building well-rounded individuals, and with his extensive corporate and leadership experience, we are confident that he will help take the institution to the next level—strengthening our systems, enhancing academic outcomes, and shaping future-ready students.”
As part of this transition, Gunawardana has stepped down from his role as Chief Executive Officer of Dankotuwa Porcelain PLC, where he led the company through a period of strengthened market positioning and international expansion, while continuing to serve on its Board to ensure continuity in strategic oversight. He also remains in his role as Chairman of Litro Gas Lanka Limited, maintaining his contribution to national-level corporate leadership, and continues his active involvement in education through Nanaska, a leading CIMA tuition provider known for developing business leaders through case study-based learning.
Industry observers view this appointment as a strategic move by OKI Network to integrate strong corporate thinking into education -an increasingly important factor in preparing students not just for academic success, but for leadership roles in a rapidly evolving global environment.
