Shanuka Karunaratne has become the first Sri Lankan scout to receive the prestigious international Wood Badge, awarded by Japan following a rigorous training course.

A former scout at Kingswood College, Karunaratne was presented with the badge at the Scout Administrative Board and Training Centre in Hyogo Prefecture.

The programme, conducted by the Japanese Scout Association, adheres to international standards.

According to the Kingswood College scout movement, Karunaratne’s achievement surpasses even the national service award the school earned during World War II.
