Herath and Iranian FM discuss bilateral ties; Araghchi thanks Sri Lanka for sailor rescue in phone call

Foreign Affairs Minister Vijitha Herath held a telephone conversation with Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on Thursday. During the call, Mr. Araghchi had expressed gratitude for the Sri Lankan government’s rescue and recovery efforts regarding the INIS Dena sailors, as well as its assistance in repatriating the remains of those killed when the ship sank.
He also thanked the Sri Lanka government for facilitating the repatriation of over 200 Iranian navy personnel during the ceasefire.
Minister Herath informed his Iranian counterpart that the 15 Iranian sailors aboard the IRIS Bushehr, currently docked in Trincomalee, will be provided with all necessary facilities and guaranteed safety during their stay.
The two ministers discussed bilateral relations and regional developments, during their telephone conversation.
