University of Vavuniya holds ITAM international conference
View(s):The University of Vavuniya held the 32nd international conference on IT Applications and Management (ITAM) on February 23-24 with the participation of 29 delegates from Korea, India, UK, Canada, Indonesia, China and Nepal.
The conference had a discussion on ‘Future of Asia Education Innovation in the Virtual Age’ which had two speakers from London and China and was chaired by Prof Nam Jae Cho, the Chairman of ITEM.
There was also a panel discussion by three professors on the first day of the programme. Kanish K Rajah from London, Prof Santosh Rangnekar from India, and Prof Mahesh Edirisingha from the University of Colombo.
The discussion revolved around the topic of national commitment on higher educational policy development, University of Vavuniya Vice Chancellor Senior Professor A Atputharajah
and ITAM Conference General Chair Dr Ravinthirakumaran said.
These educational reforms will be implemented in India, Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia.
On the second day of the programme two keynote speakers addressed the topics of technology-based entrepreneurship and driving innovative growth in Sri Lanka in the age of artificial intelligence.
The findings of the conference are to be provided to the UGC and Ministry of Higher Education.
Dr Ravinthirakumaran said 55 research papers were submitted for the conference on information technology and application of management.
He added that 5 presentations were given for 9 sessions which meant that a total of 45 presentations were given at the conference.
Senior Professor Atputharajah said all the papers submitted at the conference were reviewed by Korean professors and will be published in the university’s research repository, which will have public access free of charge.
The vice chancellor also said that 20 papers came from Sri Lanka while another 20 came from foreign countries namely the UK, Korea, India and Germany.
The event also occasioned the closing of the Shroff Counter and the online payment gateway was formally opened for the university where all of the university’s payments will be done online.
