The event was honoured by the presence of Mr. Jean Bouquot, President of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), marking a significant milestone in strengthening the relationship between CMA Sri Lanka and the global accounting community. His participation underscored the importance of international collaboration in shaping the future of the profession.
The occasion was attended by the President of CMA Sri Lanka, Prof. Lakshman R. Watawala, Vice President Mr. H. M. Hennayaka Bandara, and Council Members Mr. Asanga I. Wimalaratne, Mr. Puvendran Gajendra, Mr. Nandasiri Ponnamperuma, and Ms. Sureka Ketawala, reflecting the Institute’s strong commitment to student development and professional excellence.
The dialogue focused on the evolving role of accountants in a rapidly changing global landscape. Key themes included professional ethics, digital transformation, sustainability and integrated reporting, and emerging career pathways. Students actively engaged in discussions on trending topics in the accounting field, offering insightful perspectives on the challenges and opportunities facing future professionals.
The interactive question-and-answer session proved to be a highlight of the event, with students directly engaging the IFAC President in a lively exchange of ideas. The open forum created a dynamic platform for knowledge sharing and inspiration, encouraging students to think critically about their future roles in the profession.
Adding further significance to the occasion, a special ceremonial segment was held to present final transcripts to several successful finalists, recognising their academic achievements. The programme also featured a group song performed by students, which added a vibrant and memorable touch to the formal proceedings.
Beyond the formal discussions, the event provided a valuable networking opportunity. Students were able to interact closely with their peers, academic leaders, and industry professionals, fostering connections that will support their professional journeys.
Through this successful inaugural student event of the year, CMA Sri Lanka once again demonstrated its dedication to nurturing future-ready accounting professionals and
strengthening its ties with the global accountancy community.
