The Academy of Design (AOD), Sri Lanka’s pioneering design campus, will host its Open Day for post O-Level students on 14 March 2026, from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm at the AOD Campus, Colombo Innovation Tower. Designed as an immersive and hands on experience, the event gives students a meaningful introduction to what a creative future at AOD could look like, helping them make informed decisions about their next academic step.
The Open Day offers aspiring young designers the opportunity to explore the diverse disciplines available at AOD: Fashion and Textile Design, Fashion Design and Marketing, Interior Design, Visual Communication Design, and Motion Graphics and Animation Design. Through interactive studio sessions, participants will gain insight into each field while understanding the skills, creative processes, and critical thinking required in a professional design environment.
Students can engage directly with faculty, observe live demonstrations, take part in practical exercises, and view student work firsthand. This immersive exposure allows them to see how creative ideas are developed into purposeful and professional outcomes, supporting more confident study choices before committing to a degree pathway.
While the event introduces AOD’s undergraduate programmes, it also reflects the philosophy behind the Design Foundation approach, which builds strong creative fundamentals for long term success. Foundation students develop essential competencies such as observational drawing, mixed media exploration, composition, colour theory, art history, life drawing, design thinking, and structured design process. Elements of these core practices will be integrated into the Open Day experience, offering participants a practical preview of foundational creative training.
Faculty members and alumni will lead live sessions, share industry insights, and demonstrate how creative interests translate into professional opportunities. Guidance counsellors will also be available to discuss progression routes, Foundation and degree options, and long term career pathways, ensuring both students and parents receive clarity at this pivotal stage.
