Sri Lanka Creates History at SEAMO X 2026 with World Rank No. 1 Achievements

January 2026 will be remembered as a historic milestone in Sri Lanka’s academic journey, as the nation’s young mathematicians delivered an exceptional performance at the SEAMO X 2026 Global Round, held in Bali, Indonesia.
The Southeast Asian Mathematical Olympiad (SEAMO) is recognised as one of the most competitive and prestigious international mathematics Olympiads, attracting top-performing students from across Asia and beyond. Competing at this level demands not only strong mathematical knowledge, but also advanced logical reasoning, analytical thinking, discipline, and the ability to perform under rigorous international standards.
A Remarkable National Performance
Sri Lanka participated in SEAMO X 2026 with a total of 82 students, representing leading international and government schools in Colombo and its suburban regions. These students competed against some of the strongest young mathematical minds in the world, achieving results that brought immense pride to the nation.
Out of the 82 participants:
• 8 students secured Gold Medals
• 21 students earned Silver Medals
• 21 students achieved Bronze Medals
This impressive medal-winning rate reflects the growing strength of structured Olympiad education in Sri Lanka and highlights the country’s steady rise in international academic competitiveness.
World Rankings: A Historic Achievement for Sri Lanka
Among these outstanding results, Sri Lanka achieved an unprecedented and historic milestone at SEAMO X 2026.
Two Sri Lankan students secured World Rank No. 1 positions in their respective categories, an achievement of the highest international distinction. Earning a World Rank No. 1 at a global Olympiad places Sri Lanka among the top-performing nations worldwide and sends a powerful message that Sri Lankan students are capable of competing and excelling at the very highest level.
These world-ranking achievements mark a defining moment in Sri Lanka’s Olympiad history and reflect the nation’s growing presence on the global academic stage.
Gold Medals with High Global Rankings
The achievement of eight Gold Medals, many accompanied by top global rankings, stands as one of the strongest performances by Sri Lanka at any international Olympiad to date. Gold Medals at SEAMO X is awarded only to students who demonstrate exceptional problem-solving ability under highly demanding international conditions.
A Vision for the Future
The achievements at SEAMO X 2026 are not an isolated success, but the result of long-term vision, consistent training, and strong collaboration among students, parents, teachers, and academic institutions.
The Chief Executive Officer and Founder of the institute, Mr. Priyantha Navaratne, stated that this competition plays a significant role in developing students’ logical thinking and creativity. He further emphasised that his objective is to implement a broad and inclusive programme that provides students from international and private schools, as well as government schools across Sri Lanka, with access to these valuable opportunities.
