Plans to make Moratuwa Institute of Technology, SLIATE degree-awarding bodies
View(s):The Higher Education Ministry is considering upgrading the Institute of Technology of University of Moratuwa, the Sri Lanka Institute of Advanced Technical Education (SLIATE) and several other institutes which offer various engineering technology disciplines up to diploma and higher diploma level to degree-awarding institutes.
This would enable professional-level recognition for those in the engineering field and open more employment opportunities for them, deputy minister Madhura Senevirathna said.
He said these two and several other institutes have around 2,500 students studying at this level, and they would benefit from being upgraded to degree level. The engineering course offered by these institutes include chemical engineering technology, civil engineering technology, electrical engineering technology, electronic and telecommunication engineering technology, marine engineering, mechanical engineering and several more disciplines.
