The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), which is investigating the decision to move the Ministry of Agriculture to the DPI Tower Building in Rajagiriya during the Yahapalana government, has decided to question members of the cabinet sub-committee involved in the decision.

Former Leader of the House Lakshman Kiriella, who was a member of the said sub-committee, has been summoned before the commission on December 10 to provide a statement on the matter.

The sub-committee was appointed to study the cabinet proposal to obtain the building on lease. The Sunday Times learns that the CIABOC intends to question sub-committee members about their assessment.

The usual procedure is for a sub-committee to be appointed in instances where a cabinet proposal becomes a contentious issue, for it to study the matter and forward its recommendations. Since the sub-committee’s recommendations are taken into account when taking a final decision, the commission intends to question its members regarding their decision in order to determine whether an act of corruption had been committed in obtaining the said Rajagiriya building on lease, a high ranking CIABOC source told the Sunday Times.

It was Mr Kiriella who had submitted the proposal to parliament. He has requested that his lawyers be allowed to study the relevant documents with the CIABOC before providing a statement.

The CIABOC has already questioned former President Maithripala Sirisena and former Minister Chamal Rajapaksa over the matter.
