AG directs CID to submit medical reports of former president to JMO

The Attorney General (AG) has directed the CID to submit all medical reports presented to court to obtain bail for former President Ranil Wickremesinghe to the Judicial Medical Officer (JMO) and obtain a full report.
The AG has also directed that statements be recorded from the six medical doctors including a cardiologist, neurologist and an endocrinologist, who submitted reports on behalf of Mr Wickremesinghe.
The CID informed court at the last hearing that the medical reports had been obtained by them close to the court date, and hence a full report on them could not be obtained.
The directive had been given to the OIC Maritime Unit of the CID Nilantha Herath by Additional Solicitor General Dileepa Peiris.
The decision to probe the medical reports has been taken due to prosecution claiming there are certain inconsistencies in the content of these reports and Mr Wickremesinghe’s medical condition.
Meanwhile, some of Mr Wickremesinghe’s legal representatives are planning to make legal representations to the AG.
