The 8th International Conference on Business Innovation (ICOBI), hosted by the Faculty of Business at NSBM Green University, was held on 16th October at the NSBM Auditorium.
ICOBI is one of NSBM’s flagship annual academic events, designed to attract distinguished national and international researchers and serve as a significant step toward fostering a vibrant research culture in Sri Lanka and the South Asian region. The conference provides a vital platform for interactive networking, multidisciplinary collaboration, and knowledge exchange, contributing to the advancement of research in business innovation and sustainable development.
This year’s conference was themed “Innovating for Resilience – Redefining Business and Education Beyond Boundaries,” reflecting the dynamic and transformative role of innovation in shaping the future of business and education. ICOBI 2025 was conducted in two stages, offering participants a comprehensive and engaging academic experience.
Leading up to the main event, an engaging Pre-conference was organised as Stage 1 to provide valuable context in advance. The Pre-conference took place on 15th October, at NSBM Green Boardroom, comprising an enlightening keynote address delivered by two distinguished scholars: Dr. Dinuka Wijetunga, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Marketing, University of Colombo, on “Developing an Argument in Research: The Pyramid Principle”, and Dr. Payal Kumar, Dean of Research & Management Studies at the Indian School of Hospitality (ISH), India on “Transforming into a Book: Strategies for Academic Publishing”.
A key highlight of the Pre-Conference Programme was the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Presentation Competition, which added a dynamic and engaging dimension to the event. This fast-paced research communication challenge invited doctoral candidates to present their thesis and its significance within just three minutes—testing their ability to convey complex research ideas with clarity and impact. The competition provided an excellent platform for participants to showcase ongoing research, receive constructive feedback from an expert scholarly panel, and engage in valuable academic networking with peers and faculty members.
Stage 2 – the conference day featured the inauguration ceremony in the morning, with parallel sessions and poster presentations in the afternoon. The ceremony was graced by three eminent keynote speakers: Prof. Pavithra Kailasapathy – University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, Prof. Linda Bradley – University of Gothenburg, Sweden and Dr. Christopher A. Siaw – University of Plymouth, UK.
This timely and informative research conference further served as a knowledge-sharing platform to share new research results, insightful ideas, and new perspectives on a wide range of topics related to business innovation and digital resilience, comprising parallel sessions and poster presentations under eleven specific sub-themes. The research articles presented at ICOBI 2025 were published in the ICOBI Proceedings published by NSBM Green University.
