President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has said that plans were underway to have a vocational training centre in each district.

Addressing the 27th annual sessions of the Lanka Guru Seva Sangamaya at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium, he said that special attention is being paid to vocational education as part of the educational reforms.

Allowances for teachers in schools categorised as extremely difficult, difficult and isolated will be increased through the upcoming budget, the president said. He said there could be opposition to the move, but it needs to be done and the support of the teachers are required.

The president also assured that Parliament will not pass any amendments for which there is no public consensus.

Laws are made for the sake of the people, he said, and therefore if the public do not agree to such amendments it will not be passed.
