Lankan students shine at Mathematics and Science Olympiad
View(s):A group of Lankan students who participated in the International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO – 2025) in Malaysia have achieved a series of victories.
Among them are 12 students who represented the Mathematics Division in the International Mathematics and Science Olympiad (IMSO).
The Science and Mathematics Branches of the Division of Educational Quality Development, under the Ministry of Education, annually select students to participate after conducting competitions at school, zonal, and provincial levels. Students who won at the provincial level were selected for the national competition.
From among those who obtained the highest marks at the national level, students were chosen for international participation. After providing them with formal training, 12 students from the Science Division and 12 students from the Mathematics Division took part in the international competition.
Among the 12 students who represented the Science Division, four students, Himeth Kemsara Abeysinghe – Royal College, Colombo, D M M Kavithma – Ananda College, Colombo, R Akshath – Hindu College, Jaffna and N B Thenuk Winsith – Badulla Central College won silver medals, while the other 8 won bronze.
In the STEM Team Competition held as part of this Olympiad, the Lankan team achieved fourth place among all participating countries.
