A group from the Young South Asian Leaders Initiative (YSALI) visited Sri Lanka’s parliament this week.

The group, comprising 80 delegates from Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, is participating in the Young South Asian Leaders Regional Workshop being held in Colombo from August 17 to 21.

During their visit, the delegation met with speaker Jagath Wickramaratne. He explained parliament functions, and the importance of the contribution of the young generation towards the ‘current socio-political transformation taking place in the country’. He said the present youth generation, which inherited technology, bears a responsibility to create a better world, and that these young delegates, as the young community of South Asia, have the responsibility of providing leadership.

He responded to questions raised by delegates, while discussions were also held on enhancing regional cooperation within South Asia, building regional diplomatic relations, and promoting social harmony within the region.
