Facilities management conference focuses on safety in infrastructure
View(s):The International Conference on Facilities Management Futures (FMF) 2025, themed “Safety Enabled and Sustainable Facilities” was held recently at Hotel Marino Beach, Colombo. The event drew over 120 in-person attendees, with more than 50 additional participants joining virtually, including professionals, academics, and policymakers from across the globe.
The day featured the presentation of 28 peer-reviewed research papers under 5 main themes related to Facilities Management and Health and Safety. Several contributions were recognised with awards for research excellence.
Organised by the Department of Facilities Management at the University of Moratuwa, the conference focused on advancing technology and safety in infrastructure. Special emphasis was placed on resilience, smart operations, and sustainable practices to address the growing complexity of global challenges.
Keynote speakers, Professor Joseph Lai of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and Mr Lord Mangarajah of Ericsson, Kuala Lumpur, offered insights into smart retrofitting and tech-enabled safety, setting the tone for a day of forward-looking dialogue and innovation.
