Vesak programmes made mandatory in schools
View(s):The Education Ministry has issued a circular saying that schools, pirivenas, national teacher training colleges and teaching schools should have Vesak programmes in parallel with the State celebration.
The ministry has declared a “Vesak Sathiya” programme be carried out within their premises from May 8 to 14.
On May 8, a shramadana and environmental protection programme were held, while on Friday, May 9 sil programmes followed with dhamma preaching and meditation at the government education institute.
On May 10, Vesak programmes were due to be initiated in parallel to the national Vesak programme.
During the Vesak Poya (May 12) day, programmes should be held on the theme “Kaika, Manasika, Sanwara Seelayai”. Vesak bhakthi gee, and decorating programmes should be held during the day.
On May 13, cultural events should be held such as having bhakthi gee, Buddhist dramas, along with Vesak lantern decoration programmes.
On May 14, programmes which would focus on enriching a healthy life are scheduled, such as meditation programmes, programmes which encourage organic cultivation and consumption of organic food, as well as anti-drug and anti-smoking programmes.
Principals and heads of education institutes should carry out the programmes at a suitable time.
