Signs of a civilised citizenry among certain drivers

We road users are heartened by a recent and very positive development among our motorists and drivers: vehicles big and small, private and commercial, are carrying signs that say: "HOW IS MY DRIVING?" Contact telephone numbers are given, so other road users can call in and give their comments.

In a directionless nation, characterised by lawlessness and disrespect for one's neighbours, it is pleasing to see that at least a minuscule part of our society is decent enough to show concern for its fellow citizens. In short, these drivers are behaving like proper, civilised people.

Being mindful of the way people drive their vehicles will help bring down the number of road accidents, thus saving lives and giving road users greater protection.

Dear National Media, please give maximum publicity to this healthy trend and help heighten road safety awareness among the motoring fraternity.

DS, Battaramulla
