Six women boxers leave for Asian meet
 

Six women boxers left the island last night to participate in the 4th Asian Women’s Boxing Championship scheduled to be held from September 23 to 28 in Guwahati, India.

Dian Gomes president of the ABA said that 16 countries are billed to participate in this year’s championship. He further stated this is the first instance that six women boxers have been able to qualify.

The ABA is having high hopes in gold medalist Anusha Kodituwakku who will lead the team and silver medalist Chandrika Guruge. The other four boxers too are capable of bringing medals said Dian. Three of the boxers are from Army while two are from Slimline and the other from Sintasi who is a newcomer.
Capt R.K. Indrasena will accompany the team as the coach while the officials are S.A. Rajakulendran and R.S. Weerasena. Nivea Embuldeniya a senior official of the ABA has been appointed by the ABA as the technical delegate of the tournament. The boxers that took wing are Anusha Kodituwakku (Capt, Slimline), Nilmini Jayasinghe (Slimline), Chandrika Guruge (Army), Niluka Karunaratne (Army), G.K. Sumudu (Army) and A.M. Nilanthi (Sintasi).
