Sachin de Silva and experienced ever green golfer, Niloo Fernando stamped their class at the 85th Nuwara Eiya Golf Championship which took place at their club course in Nuwara Eliya last weekend. A record number of 80 golfers teed off at this annual event, the highest in the recent club history.

Niloo, after an ordinary end to her day 1 according to her high standards, came back strongly on the final day to clinch the title in the ladies event while Sachin was having a tough time with 16-year-old schoolboy Haroon Aslam who was in cracking form. He gave a good run to the experienced Sachin and Avinesh in the initial stages of the tournament and gave a hint of what to be expected from him in the future with the Digana event just eight days away in the central hills.

Haroon finished as a runner-up which was remarkable for his tender age. Young Arika Wickremasinghe too ended as runner up in the ladies event.
