Sri Lanka Army felicitated its athletes who brought honour to the country at the recently concluded 13th South Asian Games, held in Kathmandu and Pokhara in Nepal. The ceremony was held under the patronage of Army Commander, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva at the Defence Headquarters on Friday.

Sri Lanka Army had 163 athletes representing Sri Lanka under 22 sports events and at the end had accounted for 19 gold medals, 29 silver medals and 37 bronze medals out of the total tally of 251. Sri Lanka ended third among seven countries with 40 gold, 83 silver and 128 bronze medals and Sri Lanka Army, one of the country’s highest contributors in sports to the nation, ends with a fair share of the accolades.

From Sri Lanka Army, 163 athletes — 114 male and 49 female — besides officials, trainers and managers joined the touring party at the 13th South Asian Games to Nepal, which goes down in history as the event that produced Sri Lanka the highest number of medals.
