Lyceum International, Wattala and Musaeus College emerged Boys and Girls ‘A’ Division champions respectively at the Sri Lanka Schools Under-13 Doubles Badminton Championship 2019 which concluded on a high note last weekend.

At the tournament which saw more than 1600 young shuttlers in action at the Municipal Indoor Sports Complex in Kandy, Lyceum Wattala defeated Richmond College in the Boys’ ‘A’ Division final. In the Girls’ ‘A’ Division, SujathaVidyalaya, Matara secured the runner-up spot.

P. de S. Kularathna MV, Ambalangoda, St. Joseph’s College, Colombo, Bandaranaike College, Gampaha and Lyceum International, Gampaha also emerged victorious in their respective divisions in the Boys’ category. In the Girls’ category, Royal International, Kurunegala, Lyceum International, Wattala, Sumedha College, Gampaha and Methodist High School, Moratuwa won their respective divisions.

The three-day tournament was organised by Sri Chandananda Buddhist College, Kandy, under the supervision and assistance of Sri Lanka Schools Badminton Association (SLSBA).

Special Advisor (Sport and Physical Education) to the Education Ministry, Sunil Jayaweera and
Sri Lanka Badminton Vice President Parakrama Basnayake were the chief guests at the awards presentation ceremony while the Principal of Sri Chandananda Buddhist College, Ven. Godagama Mangala Thero, SLSBA President and Principal of Richmond College, Galle, SampathWeragoda and SLSBA Secretary Saman Wijesinghe were the guests of honour.
