Havies fired up for CHallenge; CR aim to continue winning streak
View(s):Havelock Sports Club will be aiming to bounce back with a vengeance when they play away against winless CH&FC in the Dialog Club Rugby League Championship 2019/20 first round clash at Racecourse stadium today. Kick-off is scheduled at 4.00 p.m.
CR&FC will be hoping to maintain their winning streak against Air Force in the other match at Ratmalana.
Still smarting from their stunning 36-24 defeat at the hands of Police in their own backyard, Havelocks, last year’s League runners-up, will be hoping to regroup and keep their campaign back on track. Havelocks head coach Sanath Martis must be fuming and breathing fire during practice sessions in the last week after their inexplicable reversal following an impressive 35-3 victory in the season opener against Navy.
“The mood in the camp is better. We might see a few changes on the wing but we will definitely fight back by winning ball,” said a Havelocks player on the eve of the clash against CH who are still struggling to get their combinations right.
The Maitland Crescent club, who snatched a 8-all draw against Navy and lost 23-17 to CR&FC, must be hungry for success playing their third consecutive game at home. The Rohitha Rajapaksa-led side will have to pull up their socks and come out firing on all cylinders if they are to prevent Havelocks captained by Mithun Hapugoda from getting the upper hand in the match. CR&FC, led by Sri Lanka skipper Omalka Gunaratne, who have shown plenty of resilience and steel with two hard-earned wins against Police 17-13 and CH, should cruise past Air Force who were beaten 26-8 by both Kandy and Army.
