Zahira College, Colombo, was founded in 1892 as Al Madrasathul Zahira by two of the most prominent Sri Lankan Muslims of the day — I.L.M. Abdul Aziz and Arasi Marikar Wapchie Marikar, with the active patronage of Ahmed Orabi Pasha of Egypt.

Spread over eleven acres of land in Maradana in the heart of Colombo, the school has, over the years, developed its facilities. It has a competition size playground, a swimming pool, a dental Clinic, a hostel, a canteen, a bookshop and a students counseling room.

Today Zahira College is the largest Muslim educational institution in Sri Lanka with more than 5,400 students and nearly 300  teachers.  The Founder’s Day Ceremony will be held on August 21 at 4 p.m. at the Abdul Gaffoor Hall under the patronage of Principal Trizviiy Marikkar.

President Counsel Ali Sabry will deliver the founder’s day oration on “The Role of Zahira College in the Promotion of Communal Harmony”.
