The Ministry of Education  (MoE) will spend Rs 4.8 billion to print 44.7 million school textbooks for next year, said Minister of Education Akila Viraj Kariyawasam.

The MoE has ordered that all books be printed and distributed  to the schools by end November this year.

The books required for the National Schools as well as for schools with more than 1,500 students, will be distributed by the MoE itself, while the other schools will receive their books through the 330 Zonal offices.

Minister Kariyawasam said that, of the 443 categories to be printed, 57 will be printed at the State Printing Corporation, while 7 will be printed at the Government Printers Department, with the rest printed in 29 private institutions.

He said last year’s book distribution was interrupted due to the 52-day political crisis, but this year they hope to complete the book distribution in smoothly. – DW
