Royal Central College, Polonnaruwa – winners of the North Central Provincial Sports Meet

Royal Central College Polonnaruwa clinched the overall championship at the recently concluded North-Central Provincial Sports Meet, held as part of the novel ‘Samaposha Provincial Sports Games 2019’ series. Anuradhapura Central College occupied the first runner-up position while Medirigiriya National College finished as second runner-up.

Thirty four new provincial record from 116 events  were established in this highly successful meet which was participated by a record number of 3321 promising athletes, both boys and girls representing 261 schools. The sports meet was held from the July 11 to 14 at the Anuradhapura Public Stadium.

The Boys’ Championship trophy was won by Anuradhapura Central College, the runner-up was Royal Central College Polonnaruwa and Walisinghe Harischandra Maha Vidyalaya was placed third.

Royal Central College, Polonnaruwa won the Girls’ Championship trophy ahead of Swarnapali Balika Vidyalaya, Anuradhapura and Anuradhapura Central College who finished in the second and third positions.

The North-Central Provincial Sports Meet which concluded on an excellent note is part of a series of separate sports meets being held in the Uva, North-Central, Eastern and North Western provinces, powered by CBLSamaposha, manufacturer of the nation’s popular cereal brand, Samaposha.

With sole sponsorship from Samaposha and in collaboration with the Provincial Educational offices, the meets will be conducted independently throughout the month of July in each of the above mentioned provinces.

Y.M.KH.K. Abeykoon, Deputy Provincial Director, North-Central Provincial Department of Education said, ‘We have successfully concluded the North-Central Provincial Sports Meet. The support extended by Samaposha in coming forward as sponsors of this event and helping these children who are dedicated towards sports despite numerous challenges, is immeasurable.’
