A first for fairfirst insurance
A fine unbroken 5th wicket partnership of 70 runs by Chamika Gunasekera and Thilina Masmulla helped fairfirst Insurance to register a six-wicket win to emerge champions of the Mercantile ‘F’ Division cricket tournament played for the fairfirst Insurance Trophy yesterday at the MCA Grounds.
Alianz Finance winning the toss and taking lease of the wicket totalled 150 for the loss of 9 wickets in 25 overs. Damian De Bayzer top scored with a well compiled 50 runs to be the top scorer. In reply fairfirst Insurance reached the target scoring 154 for 4 wickets 3.3 overs to spare.
Masmulla remained unbeaten on 65 (off 49 deliveries and included a six and 7 boundaries) to see his side winning the Mercantile ‘F’ Division cricket championship.
The individual awards were won by Thilina Masmulla – Man of the Match, Best Batsman of the Tournament – Chatura Chinthaka (MAS Kreeda – 425 runs in 6 innings including a double century),Chamika Gunasekera – Best Bowler of the Tournament (18 wickets for 103 runs) and Man of the Tournament – Sachitra Fernando (Brandix Essentials – 356 runs and 8 wickets in eight matches)
