Royal Institute win International Schools Under-20 Football title

Royal Institute emerged champions of the Inter-International School Under-20 Football Tournament 2017, beating Gateway College Colombo in the final. Royal Institute overcame Gateway Colombo 7-6 after a tie-breaker penalty shootout with the final score ending scoreless at fulltime in the final played last Friday at the Shalika ground in Narahenpita.

A large gathering of Royal Institute supporters were thrilled to see their side emerge champions as the winning team’s skipper and goalkeeper Arsan Nazar was adjudged the Most Outstanding Player of the Tournament.

On their way to the final, Royal Institute beat St. Nicholas, Lyceum Wattala, Elizabeth Moir and British School in the preliminary rounds. They beat Lyceum Panadura in the quarter-final battle and followed their unbeaten run by overcoming British School in Colombo in the semi-final. This is the tenth occasion that Royal Institute has won the championship in the senior age category.
