End of term exams scheduled for Thursday (30) in Western, Southern, Central and Uva Provinces’ schools, will be postponed, after schools were ordered shut due to stormy weather, and held at a later date, just prior to the school holidays, the Ministry of Education stated.

An MoE official said the Provincial Directors of Education in the 4 Provinces have been instructed to use their discretion when choosing a date to hold the postponed exams, before the school term ends.

“However, some schools are reported to have sustained damage due to the weather, while some others have been taken over as temporary camps for the displaced,” the official added. A decision on how exams will be held at such schools will be taken after further discussions.

S. Thomas’ Preparatory School in Colombo 3 was one of the worst affected schools by the gale force winds that struck several areas in the country.  Large sections of the roof of the School were blown away by the strong winds on Wednesday night and the playground littered with debris.
