QR Code for schoolchildren

The Govt is mooting the idea of introducing the QR code to schoolchildren, which would require students to scan their fingerprints, instead of the roll call used to mark their attendance registers. The QR code will provide students with an identity number that can be used throughout their school lives.

A Ministry of Education (MoE) official said the number given to students can also be used to formulate admission numbers for National exams conducted by the Dept of Exams. The numbers will be used together with the Exam Code of the Scholarship, Ordinary Level and Advanced Level exams at the end.

“This will avoid plenty of human errors that can happen in exams,” the MoE official said. The funds for the project will be allocated from the MoE Budget allocation for 2018. - CC
