“Premaya Nam”, the directorial debut by brothers Kalpana Ariyawansa and Vindana Ariyawansa has been chosen for three major Indian international film festivals this year.

The film was screened first at the 46th International Film Festival of India in Goa (November 20-30) followed by screenings at ongoing two festivals 20th International Film Festival of Kerala (December 4-11) and Delhi International Film Festival (December 5-10).

“Premaya Nam” is the only Sri Lankan film to feature at the 46th IFFI this year. So far “Premaya Nam” has participated in Beijing International Film Festival (April) , Shanghai International Film Festival (June), Jaffna International Cinema Festival (September) and International Film Festival of Colombo (November) this year.

IFFI in Goa is considered the premier International Film Festival in India and both International Film Festival of Kerala and IFFI festival belong to the list of 52 international festivals accredited by the international film festival regulatory body, Paris based The FIAPF (Fédération Internationale desAssociations de Producteurs de Films; English: International Federation of Film Producers Associations).

Based on a true story, “Premaya Nam” starring Shyam Fernando, Samanalee Fonseka,Suranga Ranawaka and Dr. Sathis Wijemanne, features an ensemble of cast frequently seen on contemporary theatre, television and cinema.

Cinematographer Jaan Shenberger acted as the director of photography while Tapas Nayak and Andrew Scott Duncan did the sound design.

Original score was composed by Dr. Rohana Weerasinghe and the theme song was written by Prof. Sunil Ariyaratne. Daminda D. Madawala contributed as the assistant director while internationally acclaimed filmmaker Prasanna Vithanage acted as the executive producer.

Consultant psychiatrist Dr. Kapila Ranasinghe was the advisory consultant for the movie. Brothers Kalpana andVindana Ariyawansa wrote and directed “Premaya Nam” and has been produced by Kalpana Ariyawansa, Prem Dissanayake, Athula Mahawalage and Sujeewa Wijesinghe.
