An estimated 6,000 people including 4,000 devotees from India are due to arrive in Kachchativu island for the annual feast of St Anthony’s Church to be held today.

Devotees, mostly fishermen of the two countries, including women and children started arriving on Saturday.

Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) spokesman Indika Silva said that the Indian pilgrims have arrived in 110 mechanised boats, after the Indian Coastguard handed them over at the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL).

“We have arranged all basic facilities to the devotees of the two countries, including sanitary, medical, and drinking water,” he said.
