Three teams grab honours on day two
Old Dharmasokians, Old Rahulians and Old Mahindians grabbed honours after conclusion of the second day’s play in the Col Henry Steele Olcott Trophy Cricket tournament worked off at the Welagedara Stadium Kurunegala yesterday. All these teams have gained two wins each in the league stage of the tournament. The eight teams were divided in to two groups and the winners of each group will meet in the final.
This annual tournament is conducted by Old Boys Association of the Maliyadeva College Kurunegala.
Dashing openers Saman Jayantha and H. Premasiri provided some fireworks as Old Sokians amassed the day’s highest score of 89 twice.
Saman Jayantha has scored 60 runs from his two innings while H. Premasiri made 63 runs from the same number of innings..
Ananda College Colombo clinched the schools segment of the tournament on the first day by defeating Dharmasoka in the final.
Hosts Maliyadeva gained the Plate championship by overcoming Rahula in the final.
The tournament will be continued today at 9.30am.
