Total employment in Sri Lanka’s IT/BPM industry has grown to an estimated 74,100 in 2013, up by 123 per cent from 33,700 in 2007, a new report says.The country’s first IT/BPM review released this week by SLASSCOM says that the number of companies in the industry also grew to over 225 last year from 171 in 2007.

“Our global brand position (also) improved significantly. AT Kearney ranked Sri Lanka among the top 25 destinations in their global ranking in the last three consecutive rankings. Gartner ranked Sri Lanka among its top 30 global locations. The recent ‘Outsourcing Destination of the Year’ award in UK by the National Outsourcing Association (NOA) was a true validation of this tremendous progress which we were able to achieve,” the report presented to Treasury Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera, noted.

Export revenue in the past five years grew by 238 per cent to US$720 million from $213 million in 2007.
