Dinesh Weerakkody, Chairman of Commercial Bank of Ceylon, steps down tomorrow in line with the Banking Act after completing nine years with the top bank, the maximum one can serve on a bank board.

Mr. Weerakkody joined Commercial Bank of Ceylon as a DFCC Bank nominee in July 2005 and became an Independent Director in 2009, when DFCC Bank reduced their share holding to below 15 per cent to be compliant with the new banking regulations. Mr. Weerakkoy was appointed Deputy Chairman of the bank in October 2011 and its Chairman on December 30, 2011, making him the youngest Chairman of the Bank, officials said.

He was also a Director of DFCC Bank being appointed to the board in 2003.

Commercial Bank is the only Sri Lankan Bank to be listed in the Global top 1000 banks continuously for four years and the only private sector bank to cross a post tax profit of Rs. 10 billion in 2012 and 2013, and in 2013 became the second most profitable bank, after the state-owned Bank of Ceylon, in the country.
