With the advancement in technology, the quality of printing has reached milestones in today’s context compared to where it was many years ago. Printing started off some decades ago with offset printing machines globally whereas the term ‘offset’ has started to fade away with digital printing coming into the market. The competition is now between different brands of digital printing machines which can perform many of the clients’ requirements within a short period of time.

EWIS Peripherals (Pvt) Ltd Deputy General Manager, Chanaka Hapuarachchi speaking to the Business Times on the sidelines of the launch of RICOH digital printing machines in Sri Lanka at the Hilton in Colombo last week, said, “The demand for offset printing is going out of the market because digital printing has come up to the same level as offset printing.”

“EWIS always looks at different ways to increase the productivity of the customers. The company has been marketing all kinds of digital printers in Sri Lanka and has seen very considerable growth in the digital printing market,” added Mr. Hapuarachchi.

RICOH considered the number one digital printing machine brand in the world, according to EWIS officials, is optimised to reduce power consumption. The product durability is very high compared to other digital printing machines. The company also manufactures interactive whiteboards, cameras, watches, thermal papers, unified communication systems and so on. EWIS also handles some of the recent products such as copiers, duplicators, projectors, fax machines, multifunctional printers and colour lazer printers.

EWIS Peripherals (Pvt) Ltd Chief Operating Officer, Harsha Samarajiwa told the Business Times that the company looks at new products with brand new technology and new innovative products that offer the customers that will help them in their day-to-day business operations.

The demand for photocopiers in Sri Lanka with its latest technology has moved ahead a lot. The quality of photocopying is as equal as laser printers. The technology itself has changed so that ‘you’ get crystal clear printouts, added Mr. Samarajiwa.

RICOH machine has a touch screen which can install certain applications to track the usage. When it comes to photocopying a document could be photocopied on both sides of the page in one go, by installing the application. Technology-wise the device had moved forward a lot. RICOH produces equipments that are very cost effective and has a lot of functionality that is useful to the customers, he noted.
