WNS Global and Virtusa penalised for non-punctuality
The league stage of the Sierra IT Trophy 30 over Tournament came to an end with the conclusion of three matches played at the MCA Grounds over the weekend.
WNS Global after awarding 80 penalty runs to the opponents for not being punctual, managed to beat DFCC Group by one-wicket with 02 deliveries to spare, while another team Virtusa too was penalised for failing to be present on time had to award 50 penalty runs to Citizens Development Bank and lost the match by 83 runs.
On Sunday, in the last match in the league stage, despite a superb bowling spell by Eran Peiris (7 for 26 in 06 in overs) for Lion Brewery, John Keells ‘C’ snatched a 10-runs win, thanks to a fighting half century by K. Dissanayake (51) and economical bowling spells by Rasika Weeraratne (3/22) and A.G. Jaakey (3/19).
Thus, the League Stage, which commenced on March 1, concluded on May 11, after 90 matches, with the participation of 36 teams in six groups.
The elimination round will commence on May 17 with the quarter-finals and the tournament will come to a close on June 7 with the final at MCA Grounds.
