Chairman of Sri Lanka Cricket’s selection committee Deputy Minister Sanath Jayasuriya declined the presidency of the 109-year-old Matara Sports Club yesterday. He said that the majority of the members were in favour of reelecting last years office bearers who had other agenda’s excluding developing cricket in Matara.

He regretted that he had to decline the offer made by Dr. Sanjaya Sedara Senarath who was willing to step down from the post of president. Almost 100 members attended the Annual General Meeting held at the Deshamanya H.K. Dharmadasa Pavillion, at which the following office bearers were elected uncontested as the contenders proposed by Sanath Jayasuriya withdrew their nominations.
