Ananda were home for tea when they outclassed Maliyadeva Kurunegala by an innings and 14 runs in the Under 19 inter-school cricket encounter concluded at Ananda Mawatha yesterday.

Ananda had laid the foundation on day one having bowled out the Devans for a low score of 124 and ending the day on 161 for 4. Ananda, resuming on the second day, were propelled by two solid performances from Pasindu Isira and Dasun Wijesinghe.
Pasindu, who was unbeaten on 54 on the opening day, went on to reach his ton and ended making a 107-ball knock of 103 which included ten boundaries and three sixes.

Pasindu along with Dasun who remained unbeaten on 64 were associated in a 144-run stand for the fifth wicket enabling Ananda to post 261 for 5 declared.

Maliyadeva batting the second time with a deficit of 137 runs made steady progress but collapsed in the latter part of the innings. From a score of 87 for 4 they lost their remaining six wickets for just 36 runs and succumbed to a meagre total of 123.
St. Anthony’s Wattala coasted to their third outright win of the season with a comfortable 7-wicket win over P. de S. Kularatne MV Ambalangoda in the match which ended at Wattala.

The hero for St. Anthony’s was their skipper and opener Sachin Jacob who made an unbeaten 54 in his side’s run chase of 84 runs. He helped his side reach the target in the 21st over.

Sachin in the process reached the 500-run mark for the season which he achieved having so far played six matches. His knocks comprise two half tons and two centuries.

Dharmapala put in some stiff resistance to deny Prince of Wales’ an outright win after the latter was in a strong position when play stopped for lunch on the second at Pannipitiya.

Prashan Ratnayake put in a heroic effort for the Palians with a knock of 103 enabling them stave off defeat.

Wesley registered a first inning win over St. Benedict’s in the match concluded at Kotahena. The second day’s play saw St. Benedict’s resuming from their overnight score of 38 for 1 being bowled out for 100 with Jonathan Caderamanpulle, claiming impressive figures of 5 for 28, doing the damage.

St. Joseph’s despite making a formidable total of 250 and bundling out Mahinda for 135 had to be satisfied with a first inning win in the match which ended at Darley Road.

St. Anthony’s Katugastota who have been performing well since the school cricket season began, came back into reckoning when they held Nalanda to a draw in a high scoring match played at Campbell Place.

The opening day’s play saw Nalanda, who took the first lease of the wicket, making a formidable total of 341 for 9 declared with Woshantha Silva slamming a knock of 123 with 15 boundaries and four sixes.

Zahira holds Rajans at Lake View

Zahira College Colombo came off second best in their Under-19 Schools Cricket match against Dharmaraja College at Lake View yesterday. Allrounder Tharusha Weragoda turned up trumps with the bat as he made an elegant 74 that had eleven fours. Ramesh Ranasinghe also weighed in with a meaty contribution.

Mohamed Fahim, a left-arm spinner, took the bowling honours for the visitors with a five for. At the close the Zahirians were 42 runs ahead but had lost half their side. Deneth Lanka, the Rajans off-spinner, was among the wickets once more.
