People’s Award of the Year at the Sri Lanka Cricket Dialog Cricket Awards 2013 which was held at the Waters’ Edge Hotel last Tuesday. Besides winning the main award Herath also won the Test Bowler of the Year award while Sangakkara claimed the Best Test Batsman of the Year award for the second year running.

In addition former captain T.M. Dilshan won the Best ODI Batsman of the Year award while national Twenty20 vice captain Lasith Malinga won the Best ODI Bowler of the Year award. Sri Lanka Twenty20 skipper Dinesh Chandimal won the Emerging Player of the Year award.

In the women’s category, Sri Lanka skipper Sashikala Siriwardene won the Women’s Cricketer of the Year and Best Women’s ODI Allrounder awards. Deepika Rasangika won the Best Batswoman award while Chamani Seneviratne emerged as the Best Bowler.

Sri Lanka Cricket also honoured media personals at this year’s Cricket Awards for the contributions rendered to Sri Lanka cricket.Among them were Daily Mirror Sports Editor, who was presented with a special award for being adjudged the Best Sports Journalist of the Year by the Editor’s Guild of Sri Lanka last month. Three senior sports journalists Elmo Rodrigopulle, Neville Anthony and Lankadeepa Sorts Editor Daminda Wijesuriya received Outstanding Achievement awards for their extraordinary years of untiring services and dedication to their profession and cricket in English, Sinhala and Tamil categories. Renowned cricket commentator Palitha Perera was also felicitated for his yeomen service of 50 years for cricket.
