Royal College won the Pan Asia Bank Challenge Trophy when they defeated St. Joseph’s College, Maradana by 52 points to 32 in the boys ‘A’ division basketball final at Henry Pedris Park recently.

At halftime the Royalists were ahead with 26 points to the Josephians’ 18.

Sumeera Chanaka top scored for Royal with 15 points, while Ashen Menuka 12 and tall lanky, south paw Julian Gunasinghe 11 also swelled the Royal score.For the Josephians, Brendon Keyzer 12 was the best shooter and Pruthivi Fernando contributed four points.
Brendon Keyzer of St. Joseph’s College won the award for the Best Defensive Player, while Ashen Menuka and Sameera Chanaka of Royal College were adjudged the Best Offensive and Best Player respectively.Julian Gunasinghe of Royal College won the award for the Player of the Tournament and Sameera Chanaka was the Most Valuable Player.

Meanwhile, Holy Family Convent, Bambalapitiya was severely jolted by St. Joseph’s Convent, Nugegoda before posting a close 44 to 39 points win, in the girls’ All Island ‘A’ division basketball final, played at Henry Pedris Park recently.

At the short whistle Holy Family led by 23 points to 16.

Melissa Dunuwille and Yasara Siriwardena top scored for Holy Family Convent with 11 points each, while Keysha Siriwardena added a further nine.

For the Josephians, Imesha Thathsarani was in brilliant form with 17 points, while Anne Stephnie (nine points) and Nethmi Herath (six points) were the other scorers.

Melisa Dunuwila of Holy Family Convent was adjudged the Best Defensive Player, while the Siriwardena sisters, Yasara and Keyasha also of HFC, won the Best Player

Girls’ Under 19 Winners – HFC Bambalapitiya

and Player of the Tournament awards respectively. The Best Offensive Player award was won by Imesha Thatsarani of St. Joseph’s Convent. In the boys’ and girls’ consolation finals, Colombo International School, Kandy defeated Gateway College, Colombo by 59 points to 51 and St. Lawrence’s Convent, Colombo 6 defeated Good Shepherd Convent, Kotahena by 43 points to 33 respectively.At the short whistle CIS, Kandy held a slim 30 to 29 point lead.

Boys’ Under 19 Winners – Royal College Colombo 07

Samiru Karaliyadde with 20 points and Azzan Manzil 17 were the best shooters for CIS, Kandy.For Gateway College, Nichula Liyanage 21 points and V. Karunaratne 11 were the team’s chief scorers.

In the girls’ consolation clash, St. Lawrence’s Convent led 18 to 16 at halftime.Natasha Perera led the scoring for St. Lawrence’s with 19 points, while Tracy Plunkett (10 points) and Dasuni Liyanage (8 points) were also on target for the team.

Natasha Perera of St. Lawrence’s won the award for the Best Player. Claude Peiris Director/CEO of Pan Asia Banking Corporation PLC graced the event as the Chief Guest
