The cream of Sri Lanka’s racing drivers and riders will be vying for honours, during a busy festival season, in three major sporting events which will be held during the coming weeks.

The motor racing season will commence with the 79th Mahagastota Races, conducted by the Ceylon Motor Sports Club, which are scheduled for today in Mahagastota commencing at 7.00 am.

The Motor Racing season in Nuwara Eliya will kick off today, with the cream of Sri Lanka riders and drivers in action, at different events until next weekend.

A total of 20 events comprising nine bikes and 11 cars will be worked off during the day, culminating with a grand awards presentation in the evening.

Meanwhile the popular Foxhill Super Cross racing event, conducted by the Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Federation, will be held on April 20 at the Diyathalawa Circuit.

Over one hundred top competitors, including four Indian riders, will compete in this meet in ten different events.
The top Sri Lankan riders are Gayan Sandaruwan, Shihan Adhikari, Rehan Buultjens and Jacques Gunawardena.
The five events for riders are the standard 125 cc, 250 cc and 250 racing and super motor.

Another major event in the racing calendar is the 66th Nuwara Eliya Road Races, conducted by the Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Club, which will be held on April 21 around the race course starting from opposite the Grand Hotel.

The six events for cars are standard upto 1000 cc, Ford Lacer, Mazda upto 1300 and 1500 cc, Subaru upto 2200 cc, non turbo, Group SLN, Mini 7 upto 1000 cc, Modified upto 1000 cc

The events for motor cycles are Standard Over 125 cc up to 160 cc 4 Stroke (Mono Cylinder), Standard “Yamaha “ One Make Over 125 cc up to 160 cc 4 Stroke (Mono Cylinder), Group “M” – Standard Modified Standard Modified Over 100 cc up to 125 cc 2 Stroke, Standard Modified Over 175 cc up to 250 cc 4 Stroke (Four Cylinder), Standard Modified 600 cc 4 Stroke, Group R – Thoroughbred Racing Racing Over 100 cc up to 125 cc 2 Stroke and Over 175 cc up to 250 cc 4 Stroke (Mono Cylinder), Group Super MX, Super Motard Over 100 cc up to 125 cc 2 Stroke and Over, 175 cc up to 250cc 4 Stroke, Super Motard Over 175 cc up to 250 cc 2 stroke and Over 290 cc up to 450 cc 4 Stroke.
