Gamini MV clinches Jayaweera Trophy

Unfancied Gamini MV put up a stunning performance to clinch the overall title at the 47th L. V. Jayaweera Memorial boxing championships conducted by the Sri Lanka Schools Boxing Association and worked off in Ingiriya last week.

The boxers from Gamini MV collected a total of 26 points to finish ahead of the runners up Vidyarathana University (22 points) and third placed Vidyartha College Kandy (18 points).

Gamini MV also produced the Best Boxer of the meet in the form of Lasindu Eranga while A. D. S. Maduranga of Pilimathalawa MV was named as the Best Loser.

Over 211 competitors from 55 schools participated in this tournament which was conducted in the open air for the first time.
