A blistering 73 ball knock of 79 by Trinity opener Bhagya Palihawardena enabled his team to overhaul the modest Antonian total of 107 in their drawn 97th Big Match played at Katugastota.
Palihawardena and opener Dassanaike set the pace with some exhilarating attacking shots in their opening stand of 97. Palihawardena had a six and seven fours in his innings.Antonian skipper Sachin Bulathsingala was the only bowler to exert some control over the rampant lions.
Earlier, the Antonians lost six wickets for 51 runs in a poor display of batting as Sri Mahan and Jayasinghe dealt blow after blow. The loss of two sessions on the first day certainly cost the Trinitians dearly.
St. Anthony’s (56 for 4 contd.) 180 in 56.2 overs (D. Panditharatne 20, D. Bandara 12, B. Wijetunga 11, K.Udapola 15; A. Sri Mahan 4 for 52, B. Palihawardena 2 for14, L. Jayasinghe 2 for 12) and 49 for 1 in 16 overs (N. Gunasinghe 22 n.o, V. Deepal 18 n.o)
Trinity 139 for 4 dec in 23 overs (B. Palihawardena 79, L. Dassanaike 34, R. Chandragupta 20 n.o; S. Bulathsinghala 4 for 28)
