Current issues and international practices of aligning services operations with business strategies will be the main focus of a Public Seminar organized by the Graduate School of Management (GSM). The seminar will be delivered by Prof. Gamini Gunawardena, Professor of Operations Management at California State University at Fullerton, USA. . The seminar discussion panel will consist of Prof. Gunapala Nanayakkara, Academic Advisor, GSM, Prof. S.R. Shinde, Pune, India, Mr. Maxi Prelis, former CEO of DFCC, and Dr. Ranjith Cabral, Senior Consultant in Corporate Management and Chairman, GSM Board.

Prof. Gunawardena, the main speaker, is an eminent scholar in management, and an effective speaker on management issues, especially services management which is his current subject of teaching and research at University of California. He holds an MBA and a Ph.D. from the prestigious Graduate School of Business, University of Chicago.

He has held faculty positions in universities in USA, Sri Lanka and Zambia. He was the first Dean of the Business School in Zambia. Currently he is Professor of Operations Management at California State University at Fullerton. He is also an attorney at law in California, USA. He has been the General Counsel and a Director of a large health management organization in California for the past 15 years and has years of experience in the service industry. He has over 25 publications in reputed international peer reviewed journals in fields of Operations Management, Strategic Management, Operations Research and Service Management. He started his university academic career at the then Vidyodaya University of Ceylon.

Prof. Gunawardena is considered an expert in the field of Service Management and he will deliver his work/paper on International Developments in Service Management Research and discuss their relevance to Sri Lankan service organizations.

The Seminar will be held from 5.45pm to 8.00pm, on Friday March 15 at Rm. Dharma, Graduate School of Management, 124, Park Road, Colombo 05. Admission is free and limited, and pre-registration (email: operations@gsmedu.com/2556210/11) will be required. Executives in service organizations, business persons and professionals are invited.
