Western Province South emerged champions of the Under 15 Primal Cup Inter-Provincial cricket tournament when they defeated Western Province North by three wickets in a high scoring final played at the R. Premadasa Stadium yesterday.

The foundation for the win was l aid by their openers Avishka Fernando and Lakshina Rodrigo who gave them a flying start putting on a valuable 73 runs.

Avishka made a top score of 89 which included 11 boundaries and a six while Lakshina’s knock of 69 comprised four boundaries and five sixes which helped their side chasing a formidable score of 267 for victory to reach the target with four overs to spare.
Earlier in the day Western Province North invited to take first lease of the wicket by WP South skipper Mohamed Akram made a challenging score of 266 which came on the back of a 74 made by Malinga Amarasinghe that included four boundaries and four sixes which turned out to be in vain.Western Province North 266 for 9 in 50 overs (Malinga Amarasinghe 74, Navod Kalansuriya 34, Poorna Charuka 31, Nisal Francisco 24)
