HND in MLT by PATHE

PATHE ACADEMY, the pioneer private sector institution providing vocational education in allied medical professions in Sri Lanka, is pleased to offer you a Higher National Diploma programme in Medical Laboratory Technology (HND in MLT) conducted here in Sri Lanka.

A Medical Laboratory Technician is part of a health care team performing a large variety of laboratory tests on tissue, blood and body fluid to help physicians in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases.

Thus the MLT is an allied medical profession which is in great demand in the health care labour market, both in Sri Lanka as well as overseas. The HND in MLT programme offered by PATHE www.patheacademy.org is registered under the Ministry of Vocational Training - Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission.

The successful students will be conferred a Higher National Diploma (HND) by PATHE Academy which is recognized worldwide. The said HND is envisaged to be accepted as an alternate qualification for enrolment to a BSc degree programme overseas in the near future.
Study modules of the said HND - MLT programme will be the following:

  • ICT
  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Chemical pathology
  • Histopathology and Laboratory Management
  • Parasitology
  • Haematology and Blood bank serology
  • Microbiology Practicals and Internship

The MLT is meant for both freshers (post A/L students) seeking a career in health care service as well as those already in service (sans theoretical knowledge) looking for career development. Admission requirements for freshers would be 3 passes, including Chemistry, at the GCE (A/L) in one sitting, or an aggregate of not less than 30% at the A/L.

The programme is of 2 years duration while the students must maintain an attendance record of 80% and undergo 960 hours of internship to be qualified in achieving the Higher National Diploma.
PATHE possesses modern laboratory facilities equipped with cutting edge technology. Students are facilitated with internet and CD-ROM based teaching with loads of video and multimedia presentations.

All students are given access to our computer labs to obtain internet based resources any time of the day. All theory classes are held at Park Hospital favourably located at Park Road, Narahenpita.
