IWMS celebrates golden jubilee with Choral Music

Celebrating golden jubilee the Institute of Western Music and Speech (IWMS) is organizing ‘Festival of Choirs’ to promote choral music which has come in for international recognition over the past few years.

Given the rising interest in choral music, and the noteworthy performances of our own Sri Lankan choirs, having brought honour to the country internationally, with this novel event the Institute intends further encourage local choirs, giving them the chance to develop, and opportunities to perform and excel at that.

The IWMS has been organising several programmes in the form of concerts and competitions throughout the years, with a view to encouraging young talent and this Festival of Choirs, will be the first of the kind, that aims at all levels of choral singing.

The Festival is open to all school choirs, both at junior and senior level, as well as having an open category for other choirs, be it church or private. The jury is to be selected from an expert group of musicians, and the finals would have internationally acclaimed choral experts to adjudicate.

A Festival with a difference, a competition for excellence, and an opportunity for all local choirs who have it in them, to be winners and it would be an ideal opportunity for all those interested in choral music.

With the Festival of Choirs; the institute aims to promote choral music in the country specially focusing on fostering young talent, both from schools and private entities, with a passion for singing, a passion for performance, and most of all a passion for music.
