Nadeeka’s ‘Ka’

Model: Saskiya, Hair and make-up: Rumours, Photos by : Lakshman Gunathileke

Model Saskiya displays clothes from the newly opened fashion boutique at Gandhara ‘Ka’ in this photo spread.

The name ‘Ka’ may not ring a bell, but think of Sri Lanka’s most famous model in recent years Nadeeka Perera who after walking away with the Miss Sri Lanka for Miss World 2005 and Model of the Year 2006 titles covered herself with glory by winning on an international stage in Spain when she tookthe Best Female Model of the World title also in 2007, and it falls into place.

Nadeeka says the boutique is a dream realized, a dream she had within her for the past seven years even before she stepped onto the catwalk. “I always wanted to start something on my own.” ‘Ka’ is aimed at the modern woman of today and has clothes for all occasions, casual, smart casual, office wear, evening wear and designer wear, all chosen with Nadeeka’s own unerring eye for trendy, contemporary styles.

She has four designer friends supplying her- Ramona Oshini, Ashanti, Chaturanga and Chamara stressing that she does not have many pieces of the same outfit so that the wearer need not fear seeing duplicates of her favourite outfit, all around town.

‘Ka’ also has accessories, handbags, belts, shoes, jewellery, again picked by Nadeeka and she is pleased that sales have been an affirmation of her taste. “We opened in February and sales have been brisk,” she says.

And while the business side is looking good, the top model is still focused on her modelling career, so we’re only going to be hearing more of her, on one front or another.
