Academy awarded movies for May

The weekly movie screenings for the month of May at the American Center Colombo will feature Academy awarded cinematic creations of Hollywood.

Under this theme Danny Boyle’s inspirational drama ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ which won eight Oscars at the last Academy award 2009 will be screened at 6. 00 pm on Tuesday May 12. Nominated for ten Academy Awards, ‘Slumdog Millionaire won most for any film, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Mixing, Best Cinematography, Best Original Score and Best Original Song.

Accused of cheating and desperate to prove his innocence, an eighteen-year-old orphan from the slums of Mumbai reflects back on his tumultuous life while competing to win 20 million rupees on India’s ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’ in the film version of Vikas Swarup novel ‘Q & A’.

Shot in India, the film cast with known names in the Bollywood cinema and majority of child actors included Dev Patel, Irrfan Khan, Anil Kapoor, Madhur Mittal Madhur Mittal and Freida Pinto in the stellar cast in the film.
